45 Years in the Bronx, We Know What’s In the Ground Before We Quote It.

Deep foundations, marine bulkheading, SOE, concrete. We’ve done every scope, on every kind of Bronx site, since 1981 - so when we quote it, we mean it.

Services for Every Commercial Foundation Need

The Bronx is one of the most demanding places to build in the Northeast. Dense neighborhoods, active infrastructure, Harlem River waterfront, Manhattan schist bedrock in the north, soft fill soils near Hunts Point, every job comes with its own set of complications. We’ve been navigating all of that since 1981.

We’re not a national firm that shows up for the big contract and disappears, we’re the contractor GCs and developers call when the job actually has to get done right. We quote what it costs, show up with our own equipment and crews, and we don’t pay back end with change orders to make up for a low bid.

Deep Foundations & Piling

Riverdale bedrock and Hunts Point fill aren’t the same job, and we don’t treat them that way. MBI works directly with your engineers to identify what’s in the ground and spec the right system- CFA piles, driven piles, drilled caissons, or a combination- before the first rig shows up.

Commercial Marine Construction

We build and repair bulkheads, seawalls, piers, and fender systems along the Harlem River, East River, Eastchester Bay, and the Long Island Sound along with; steel sheet piling, timber and concrete bulkheads, pile-supported piers, and fendering for working docks. Designed for the tidal ranges and saltwater exposure specific to each site.

Excavation & Site Work

Mass excavation, rock excavation, environmental remediation, and site drainage- all self-performed with our own equipment and crews. In the Bronx that means drilling through Manhattan schist, working around active subway infrastructure, and managing contaminated soil on former industrial sites.

Support of Excavation (SOE)

We install soldier piles and lagging systems, steel sheet piling, and tieback anchors sized for the specific load and proximity conditions of your site. So, when you’re digging next to an occupied building or a live subway line, nothing moves that isn’t supposed to.

Concrete Superstructures

Once the foundation is in, MBI can take the project vertical; slabs, forming, and structural concrete from grade up, with one contractor accountable for the whole scope, built to the same standard top to bottom.

Marine Barge & Equipment Rentals

We rent the same sectional barges and marine transport equipment we use on our own Bronx waterfront projects. Built for working conditions on the Harlem River, Eastchester Bay, and the Sound, available when your crew needs a stable platform or a way to move equipment on the water.

READY FOR A REAL PARTNER?

If you’re a developer or GC who’s tired of excuses and “cut-rate” competitors that cost you more in the long run, let’s talk. We build a predictable backlog by being the guy who actually gets the job done right the first time. For immediate assistance or project recaps, our office is ready to ensure your bid gets the attention it deserves.

Frequently
Asked Questions

What makes deep foundation work in the Bronx different from other boroughs?

The Bronx has a wide range of ground conditions, from bedrock in the north to soft fill near Hunts Point, along with active infrastructure throughout the borough. That’s why deep foundations, piling systems, and drilled caissons have to be selected based on the exact site, not a standard approach.

Delays usually come from coordination issues or unexpected site conditions. When excavation, SOE construction, and foundation work aren’t aligned early, it slows everything down once the job starts moving below grade.

Waterfront structures along the Harlem River and surrounding areas are constantly exposed to tides, saltwater, and movement. That affects how marine bulkheads, seawalls, and marine construction systems are designed to hold up over time.

A lot of Bronx projects sit on previously developed or industrial land, which can involve unpredictable fill, debris, or contaminated material. That impacts how excavation and foundation work is planned and executed.

Between tight sites, mixed soil, and waterfront conditions, you need a contractor who’s already seen it. MBI has been handling deep foundations, piling, marine bulkheading, and SOE construction across the Bronx for decades, with the same crews and equipment we rely on every day. We never underbid and make it up later. We price it right, show up ready, and get the work done the way it’s supposed to be done.
